No Place Like Home
Whether you’re a first-time homebuyer or designing your dream home, buying a house is one of the most important decisions you’ll ever make. Once you sign the papers and move in, you may be settling down, but your insurance needs are always in transit.
Protection That Keeps Pace with You
From day one, you’ll tailor your policy to help protect your house and the personal items in your home. You’ll need the basic coverages that prepare you for an unexpected loss or damage, as well as the coverages that give you a valuable safety net for your investment.
As the years go by, you’ll continue to invest in your home. You may hire a contractor for a major renovation, or you may push up your sleeves for a weekend home improvement project. These enhancements may warrant a review of your earlier coverage selections. And many homeowners continue to acquire new valuables like jewelry and antiques that require added protection.
A Helping Hand
That’s what I’m here for: to routinely help you update your insurance policy to reflect your changing needs. Not only can I help you understand which coverages work for you, but I also understand the things that matter most to homeowners in our area. We can work together to help make sure you and your home are protected in case bad things happen.

As a condo owner, you’re in a unique situation. You have both individual and common insurance needs. Individually, you need to protect your personal property, and you also need protection from liabilities and additional assessment fees. With your fellow condo owners, you share certain responsibilities, such as building upkeep, as well as common liability.
Meet Your Unique Needs
Your condo insurance can help protect you against loss from theft, both at home and away, losses for accidents to visitors in your home, and more. If a guest or family member is injured on your stairs, would you be able to pay the medical expenses? If lightning causes damage to the exterior portions of your condominium building, will your association carry enough insurance to repair everything? If a storm causes your condo to be uninhabitable, are you prepared to pay for the additional living expenses?
I can help you find the right balance between the protection you need both as an individual property owner and as a fellow condo owner.

Your property isn't any less valuable when you rent. That's our stand. And if you've got as much stuff as the average renter, then it's worth over $30,000. Take into account your clothes, books, CDs, stereo system, TV, jewelry and other valuables you might have.
If Anything Happens, Will Your Landlord Take Care of You?
You may also be surprised to learn that your landlord is not necessarily responsible for any damages to your personal property if there’s a fire, flood, vandalism or burglary. And, even if someone’s injured in your apartment, you may be liable for their damages, not your landlord.
With a renters policy, I can help you protect your things, big and small, from the unexpected and help safeguard your savings from personal liability.
A renters policy will protect your personal property the same way it would if you owned a home. Ask me about what level of coverage is right for you.

Rising Waters Require Special Coverage
National Flood Insurance Program
A flood can be one of the worst disasters that can devastate your neighborhood. It's such a big deal that the Federal Government runs a National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). That's why Home and Property Insurance typically doesn't cover flooding. The government draws a Flood Hazard Boundary Map that divides the country into flood zone risk areas, and their Flood Insurance Rate Map sets the coverage and premiums for those areas. You can enter your address at www.floodsmart.gov to find out your risk.
When buying your home policy, I can tell you if your community is a participant in the National Flood Insurance Program, and if so, help you obtain flood insurance.
Protection Against Non-Flood-Related Water Damage
If you are worried that your finished basement will be under a foot of ground water if your sump pump fails, you’ll need to consider additional water backup insurance – neither the NFIP nor your base homeowners policy will typically cover water that backs up through sewers or drains or overflows from a sump pump.
However, if your home has water damage due to a broken pipe, most basic homeowners policies will pay to repair the damage (but will not pay for the repair of the pipe). To be sure you have the right coverage, discuss all of your specific concerns about water damage with me – not just “flooding.”

You want to protect what matters most in your life: your loved ones. With life insurance, you help to ensure that the financial needs of your family are met in the event of your death. This means peace of mind for you now, knowing your family will be secure in the future.
Who Needs Life Insurance?
You need a life insurance policy if anyone depends on your income or stands to inherit a financial burden in the event of your death.
The money your dependents will receive, “the death benefit,” can help pay essential day-to-day expenses, such as mortgage and medical bills, and help your family reach longer-term goals such as your children’s college education. Plus, life insurance can help ensure that your loved ones are not burdened with debt or forced to sell assets to pay outstanding bills or taxes.
How Much Insurance Do You Need?
This depends on a few factors. Generally, the rule of thumb is 7 times your salary; however, as life changes, your insurance needs might, too. It’s a good idea to reassess your needs annually to make sure you have enough to properly protect your family.
Beyond protection, life insurance can be the cornerstone of your family’s financial security by providing savings and wealth transfer opportunities. In fact, the very first step in selecting life insurance is to decide how you want the insurance to work for your family.
When you’re ready, I can help you determine the amount of protection you may need and the type of insurance that’s right for you.
You want to select the right coverage to protect your family. Learn more about the options available:
Term Is for a Time – Term insurance is the most basic type of insurance. You can buy protection for a certain amount of time (or term) such as 5, 10, 15, 20 or 30 years. If you die before the term is over, your beneficiary gets the death benefit stated in your policy. If you live beyond the term, your beneficiaries get no payment. This type of insurance is usually the least expensive to buy.
Renew or Convert
Term policies often allow you to extend your coverage for another term without having to get a medical check up.
In some cases, you may be allowed to convert your policy to a permanent policy. This flexibility allows you to decide how you want your insurance policy to work for you. One approach is to use the term as your “starter” policy and upgrade to a permanent policy once you become more financially established.
Permanent Is for Life – One main difference between term and permanent life insurance is that permanent doesn’t expire. As long as premiums are being paid, it stays with you permanently.
The other big difference is that with permanent life insurance, your premiums are invested to produce returns. This gives your policy a cash value, which usually accumulates at a guaranteed minimum interest and is available to help fund retirement, emergencies and more.
The law currently allows your cash value to grow tax deferred. Because of this benefit, a permanent life insurance policy has become more than a protection tool for some people—it’s also a financial tool.
